With more than 1,200 locations nationwide and a dozen in metro Detroit, Firehouse Subs was already a familiar name to many fast-casual diners before it arrived on Washtenaw in January.

Inside the restaurant, locals will spot some familiar objects. Each Firehouse location has a mural, and this one shows an Ann Arbor Fire Department engine; there are also numerous department photos and retired gear and artifacts.

In return, the department said on Facebook, it received new equipment from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation. “We wish them well with their new location,” AAFD wrote.

Firehouse, based in Jacksonville, Florida, was founded in 1994 by brothers Chris and Robin Sorenson, both veteran firefighters. Along with subs and chips, it serves mac and cheese, salads, and mini-sub kids meals that come with a plastic firefighter’s hat.
