Every Mon.–Fri. (different times): Preschool Storytimes: AADL. Half-hour program of stories and songs for kids ages 2–5 (with caregiver). Pittsfield (Mon. 10:30 a.m.), Downtown (Tues. 11 a.m.), Malletts Creek (Tues. 11 a.m. & Wed. 10:30 a.m.), Traverwood (Thurs. 11 a.m.), and Westgate (Fri. 1 p.m.). 

Every Mon.–Wed. & Fri. (different times): Playgroups for Babies: AADL. Fifteen minutes of stories, rhymes, and songs led by AADL staffers, followed by a short open playtime. June 6 (9–10 a.m. & 10:30–11:30 a.m): “Youth Fishing Derby”: Pittsfield Township Parks & Recreation. Kids ages 4–12, accompanied by an adult, invited to try their hand at fishing in one of 2 time slots. Bring your own fishing pole if you can; a few loaner poles and bait available. Also bring a hat, sunglasses, water, a snack, sunscreen, and fishing gear (extra bait, lures, hooks, line, etc.). Lillie Park North at Haven Lake, 4365 Platt. June 6 (11–11:45 a.m.): “Young Scientists”: AADL Westgate. Science-themed stories and simple science experiments for preschoolers accompanied by an adult.

June 6 (11:15 a.m.–noon): “Read and Look”: U-M Kelsey Museum of Archaeology. Kelsey staff read I’m Trying to Love Garbage, Bethany Barton’s picture book about the history and future of trash. Followed by a chance for kids ages 4–7 (with caregiver) to explore the museum’s collection to find artifacts pictured in the book. 434 S. State. Free. (734) 764–9304. 

June 6 (2–3 p.m.): “Dragon Boat Festival 3D Ornaments”: AADL Pittsfield. Kids grades K–5 invited to make dragon-shaped paper boats. Led by local artist Lyla Wang. 

June 6 (2 p.m.): “Your Brain Is Magic”: Brains On Live (Marquee Arts Not Just For Kids Series). Interactive educational comedy show for kids based on the award-winning Brains On! podcast. Hosts Molly Bloom, Marc Sanchez, and Sanden Totten present sketch comedy, science demos, and storytelling using live performance, multimedia, and audience participation to explore the power of the human brain. June 6 (4–5 p.m.): Kids & Family Open Mic and Comedy Hour: Oz’s Music Environment. Kids ages 6–12 and family members invited to play a song or share a story or joke. 1922 Packard. Free; donations accepted. (734) 662–8283. 

June 7 (11–11:45 a.m. & noon–12:45 p.m.): “Kids Move!”: AADL Westgate. Local fitness teachers Jesse Deucher & Sarah Kairis lead kids preK & under (11 a.m.) and K–5 (noon), accompanied by an adult, in a sensory-friendly program of music and movement. 

June 7 (3–4 p.m.): “Circus Anatomy with Poppet”: AADL Downtown. Detroit-area dancer and contortionist Poppet leads a program for kids grades K–5 exploring how muscles, joints, and bones function together to create movements. 

June 8 & 17 (9–10:30 a.m.): “Princess Storytime & Open Play”: Hide & Seek. Kids 6 & under accompanied by an adult invited to listen to stories, play games, take a mini dance lesson, and enjoy songs from a costumed performer (June 8: Cinderella; June 17: Elsa). June 10 (11 a.m.–noon): “Jellyfish Friendship Bracelets”: AADL Traverwood. Kids grades K–5 invited to use a wheel to create colorful woven jellyfish accessories. 

June 10 (11 a.m.–12:30 p.m.): “HEXBUG Adventures”: AADL Downtown. Kids grades K–5 invited to play with the library’s robotic HEXBUGs in an interactive obstacle course.

June 11 (2–3 p.m.): “Heat Press-a-Palooza”: AADL Downtown. Kids grades K–5 invited to use the library’s heat press machines to affix library-related art to a provided canvas tote bag. 

June 11 (2–2:45 p.m.): “Being Bilingual Rocks!”: AADL Downtown. Family-friendly bilingual concert by Alina Celeste & Mi Amigo Hamlet, a Chicago-based children’s music duo that weaves an eclectic original blend of traditional Latin American music with contemporary rumba-flamenco, Caribbean beats, and bluegrass. Aimed at kids grades preK–5. 

June 12 (1–2 p.m.): Paper Mosaics: AADL Traverwood. A chance for kids grades preK–5 to use small squares of paper and glue to create an original work of paper mosaic art. 

June 12 (5:30–8:30 p.m.): “Pets and Pajamas Movie Night”: HSHV. Kids ages 6–11 invited to watch an animal-themed movie and interact with adoptable pets. Cheese pizza dinner. June 13 & 14 (10 & 11 a.m.): “Free Fishing Weekend”: Washtenaw County Parks & Recreation Commission.. All invited to try fishing. Kids (accompanied by an adult) welcome. Poles, bait, & instruction provided. No fishing license necessary. Bring sunscreen, a water bottle, and your own pole if you’d like. 10 & 11 a.m. both days, Rolling Hills County Park (June 13), meet near the pond down the hill from the lodge, 7660 Stony Creek Rd., Ypsi; and Independence Lake County Park (June 14), meet at the fishing dock near the beach center, 3200 Jennings, north off North Territorial, Dexter. June 14 (10 a.m.–12 p.m.): “PlayLab: Exploring Color-Blocking”: Ann Arbor Art Center. Kids ages 8–12, accompanied by an adult, are invited to join artist Quinn Faylor for a hands-on exploration of shape, color, texture, and composition through collaborative artmaking. 117 W. Liberty. June 15 (2–3 p.m.): “Japan Week: Clay Totoro & Friends”: AADL Downtown. Kids grades K–5 invited to create characters from iconic Studio Ghibli films, like My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Howl’s Moving Castle. 

June 15 (3–4 p.m.): “Make Your Own Board Game”: AADL Downtown. A chance for kids grades K–5 to design and create a board game using paper supplies. 

June 15 (3–4 p.m.): “Pony Bead Flower Bracelets”: AADL Malletts Creek. Kids grade 3 & up invited to make a flower-shaped bracelet out of pony beads. 

June 16 (11 a.m.–noon): “Creature Cuties”: AADL Pittsfield. Kids grades preK–5 invited to add foam stickers to an oversized pom-pom to create a cute and fluffy animal friend. 

June 16 (11 a.m.–noon): “Pikachu Puppets”: AADL Westgate. A chance for kids grades K–5 to make a cute Pikachu stick puppet out of simple supplies. 

June 17 (11–11:30 a.m.): “Japan Week: A Japanese Classic Tale Omusubi Kororin (Tumbling Riceballs)”: AADL Downtown. Rudolf Steiner School teachers perform a Japanese puppet play for babies and preschoolers.

June 17 (3–4 p.m.): “Create a Character”: AADL Westgate. A chance for kids grades K–5 and their parents to work together on a drawing activity sheet. Led by local children’s book writer & illustrator Amy Nielander. 

June 17 (3–4 p.m.): “Unicorn Storytime & Craft”: AADL Traverwood. AADL storytellers read a unicorn story for kids grades preK–3, followed by a chance to make a unicorn-themed craft.

June 18 (1–2 p.m.): “Pipe Cleaner Jellyfish Light”: AADL Malletts Creek. Craft activity for kids grade 3 & up. 

June 18 (4–7 p.m.): “Founding Fathers Family Fest”: U-M Kelsey Museum of Archaeology Spring Family Day. Kelsey staff discuss how the ancient world—especially Rome—played a key part in the founding of the United States. With kid-friendly games, activities, and gallery tours. 434 S. State. Free. June 19 (2–3 p.m.): “Handprint Cactus Cards”: AADL Pittsfield. Kids grades K–5 invited to trace their hands onto paper, then cut it out and decorate it to create a greeting card shaped like a cactus in a flower pot. 

June 19 (2–3 p.m.): “Menagerie Mix-Up!”: AADL Downtown. A chance for kids grades K–5 to make mixed-up chimeras using various felt animal parts.

June 19 (7:15–8:45 p.m.): “Cats and Kids”: Tiny Lions. Kids ages 6–11 invited to spend time with adoptable cats and kittens at the Tiny Lions Lounge. Also, crafts & games, popcorn, and juice. Kids only. $20. Preregistration required at hshv.org/event-calendar. (734) 661–3575, [email protected].

June 20 (11–11:30 a.m.): “Japan Week: Japanese Storytime”: AADL Downtown. Local music teacher Momo Kajiwara leads kids ages 2–5 (accompanied by an adult) in song, movement, and storytelling in Japanese. 

June 20 (1–2 p.m.): “Diorama-Rama”: AADL Traverwood. A chance for kids grades K–5 to create a fun piece of 3D art out of cardboard boxes, colorful paper, and other decorative items.

June 20 (10:30–11:30 a.m.): “Little Paws Toddler Time”: HSHV. Stories, crafts, & fingerplays. Also, a chance to interact with adoptable cats & dogs and make a toy or treat for the animals. June 22 (1–2 p.m.): “Painted Cardboard Birds”: AADL Westgate. Craft activity for kids grades K–5. 

June 23 (2–3 p.m.): “Painted Party Rocks”: AADL Downtown. A chance for kids grades K–5 to paint rocks, then add some googly eyes and felt hats.

June 23 (2–3 p.m.): “Comics Jam!”: AADL Westgate. Kids grades K–5 invited to draw 2 simple cartoons to use in their own comics. No prior experience necessary. Those interested in submitting work to the Kids Comic Contest can find out more at aadl.org/kidscomiccontest.

June 24 (2–2:45 p.m.): Comedy Magic Family Show: AADL Downtown. Comedian & children’s entertainer Cameron Zvara performs a family-friendly interactive magic show. 

June 25 (3–4 p.m.): “Paper Plate Flying Saucers”: AADL Malletts Creek. Kids grades K–5 invited to make a flying saucer out of a paper plate and other craft supplies.

June 26 (10–11 a.m.): “Incredible Insects”: Hudson Mills Metropark. A hands-on nature adventure for kids ages 3–6, accompanied by an adult. The program includes stories about insects, outdoor exploration, and creative activities. Held both indoors and outside, weather permitting. June 26 (11 a.m.–noon): “DIY Stamps”: AADL Traverwood A chance for kids grades preK–5 to use foam shapes to make their own rubber stamps.

June 26 (5:30–7:30 p.m.): “Ariel Pajama Party”: Hide & Seek. Kids 12 & under accompanied by an adult invited to an under-the-sea–style dance party, including mermaid-themed games and songs from a costumed Ariel performer. Mermaid costumes or PJs encouraged. June 27 (10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.): “Mud Day Mayhem”: Apple Playschools Fundraiser. Kids (with caregiver) invited to play in a mud pit, make mud pies, throw mud, paint with mud paint, build mud sculptures, relax in a mud mask, and more. Also, a mud-free zone. June 27 (noon–3 p.m.): “Cupcake Decorating Challenge!”: AADL Downtown. Kids grades preK–8 invited to drop in and decorate a premade cupcake using provided icing and toppings. 

June 27 (noon–1 p.m.): Clay Monsters: AADL Malletts Creek. A chance for kids grades K–5 to create silly and fun monsters out of air-dry clay. 

June 27 (noon–12:45 p.m.): Two of a Kind: AADL Downtown. The nationally known Philadelphia-based children’s music husband-and-wife team of David and Jenny Heitler-Klevans present an interactive program that mixes songs, puppets, movement, and stories for the whole family.

June 28 (1–2:30 p.m.): Honey Bee Presentation: AADL Pittsfield. Local beekeepers Owen and Rebecca Wittekindt lead kids in grades K–5 in games, activities, and crafts about bees and what beekeepers do.

June 29 (11 a.m.–noon): “Paper Airplanes”: AADL Westgate. Kids grades K–5 invited to learn how to create a variety of paper airplane types, and enter their best design in a flight challenge to see which plane can fly the farthest.

June 29 (11 a.m.–noon): Ice Cream Bookmarks: AADL Traverwood. A chance for kids grades K–5 to assemble precut paper shapes to create ice cream cone–shaped bookmarks, then have them laminated by AADL staff. 

June 30 (noon–1 p.m.): “Craft-Tastic!”: AADL Westgate. A chance for kids grades K–5 to make artifacts using pipe cleaners, pom-poms, clothespins, and more. 

June 30 (noon–1 p.m.): “Family-Friendly Disney Karaoke”: AADL Pittsfield. Kids age 5 & up invited to sing along to a wide variety of Disney songs.
