The Eve and Annie Boutique launched online in 2018 with “a blend of Australian and Michigan lifestyle” dresses, tops, skirts, and pants, almost all priced under $50.

Australian-born owner Jenny Ryle opened her first store in Tecumseh in 2019 and added a Dexter location in July 2021. “There is something magical about visiting a downtown,” she says. “Customers like to visit stores … see and feel products, and have a personalized customer service experience.”

“Red Brick Kitchen & Bar closed at the very beginning [of the pandemic], as did the Barred Rock Cafe,” reports Dexter community development manager Michelle Aniol. Overall, though, the city’s businesses came through well. “People were at home with nowhere to go,” Aniol says, “so they stayed in and ordered from locals.”
