“I’ll be closed for at least six months,” says Catherine Thursby, owner of Red Shoes, the gallery of arts and crafts on Ashley, many of them Thursby’s own, along with vintage furniture and home goods. Thursby was diagnosed with breast cancer in February and closed the store “so I can get healthy,” but she says firmly, “I’m not done! I’m still using the space as a studio and will be doing special events when I’m feeling up to it.”
In the meantime, she’s partnering with Graphic Art Wholesalers on Main Street (next to Lena) where her old friend, owner McCabe Ash, sounded pretty happy for the opportunity to display a new line of merchandise in his frame shop without having to go shopping for it. “We’ve got basically everything she was selling at her store: paintings, image transfers, candles, jewelry, vases, furniture, and craft stuff.”
