“Music in the Park”: Ann Arbor Civic Band Summer Concert Series.

Every Wed. June 15—July 20. A popular local outdoor summer tradition, the 87-year-old Civic Band is directed by J. Nick Smith. Bring a picnic and blanket and relax on the grass. Tonight: “Star Spangled Spectacular!” includes a variety of late 19th-and 20th-century works celebrating the USA, including Joseph Wilcox Jenkins’ American Overture, Sousa’s march “The Liberty Bell,” U-M graduate Frank Ticheli’s Simple Gifts: Four Shaker Songs, Robert Bowden’s “Armed Forces Salute,” Copland’s “Down a Country Lane,” Hollywood Bowl Symphony conductor Carmen Dragon’s arrangement of “America The Beautiful,” and Ives’ Variation on America. This year in a new location at Burns Park while a West Park Band Shell rehabilitation is being assessed. 7:30–8:30 p.m., Burns Park, 1300 Baldwin Ave. Free. 429–5301.
