The youth-oriented value retailer Five Below opened in Oak Valley Centre in June in the former Joann Fabrics & Crafts space.

The Pittsfield Twp. location becomes the chain’s third in the area, at least for now, joining current stores at Arborland and Maple Village. Store manager Brandy Booth transferred from the Maple Village store, which she says will close in January.
Summertime business has been fairly slow, but Booth expects an August surge upon the return of U-M students with dorm rooms to furnish. Even so, squishy toys are all the rage these days: “A TikTok influencer went viral,” she says, “and now we can’t keep some of these things in stock.”
