Cartridge World, the printer and ink retailer that formerly had locations on South Industrial and Eisenhower, now has a new spot in Washtenaw Commons. New franchise owner Jennifer Meyer, who also owns a location in Brighton, tells us Cartridge World’s model is to provide local businesses and residents with recycled and refilled OEM cartridges at discounted rates.

“It takes nine hundred and fifty-three years for one cartridge to start to break down” in a landfill, Meyer says with impressive if implausible precision, “and right now the statistics are one every eight seconds is thrown away.” Cartridge World instead encourages customers to bring their old cartridges to the store to be refilled. The ones that can’t be reused are sent out to a recycling center.

Meyer says her biggest customers are local businesses–they service all of the LaFontaine dealerships as well as some U-M health departments. She sums up the appeal as “saving money, helping to save the environment, and being able to print!”
