Online shopping isn’t leaving the retail scene, so traditional malls such as Briarwood are increasingly focusing on experiential offerings.

Picture Perfect Selfie Studio illustrates that trend with twenty-two distinctive booths in which customers can take unlimited photos within ten-, twenty-, or thirty-minute timeframes.

From the purple “retro” corner to the alien-inspired Area 51, the backdrops are all creations of owner Krystal Steward—former model, arts-and-crafts lover, and director of community outreach for the local nonprofit Community Action Network.

“I had all these ideas in my head of different stations that I wanted to do, and I kind of just made them come to life,” she says. She’ll rotate many of them to keep things interesting, while maintaining booths for classic photo ops such as engagements, birthdays, and maternity.

She’s glad to snap the photos herself if that helps, and a makeup artist is on hand a few times a week. A champagne bottle and teddy bear are among the giant props also available. There’s also room in the back for quick wardrobe changes.

“That actually makes me feel good because I guess I’ve designed so many cool walls that [some customers] feel like they have to be dressed up,” Steward says. “But I don’t feel like you have to be.”
