Illustration of the Fleetwood Diner

Opened in 1949 as the Dag-Wood Diner, Ann Arbor’s iconic Fleetwood began life as a prefab steel lunch counter built from a Toledo diner kit. Renamed the Fleetwood in 1971, it grew into a beloved twenty-four-hour hangout, a magnet for students, townies, kooks, goofballs, coffee fiends, artists, and late-night philosophers. Generations hung out at its tiny counter for the legendary comfort food—especially that famous Hippie Hash!—cementing the Fleetwood as a true downtown A2 landmark.
