Time to start up the U … someone spin the Cube! Named Endover by sculptor and U-M grad Tony Rosenthal, the fifteen-foot-tall, 2,400-pound steel whirligig was a gift from the artist and U-M’s class of ’65. Rosenthal’s first giant cube, Alamo, went up at Astor Place in NYC in 1967 as a temporary installation. When New Yorkers petitioned to keep it, Rosenthal let ’em have it, and designed the Cube we know and love the very next year.
