In the midst of a restaurant boom on campus-area East Liberty, two restaurants closed. Neither was around long enough to garner much of a following.

RJ’s Coney Island has been sold! Thank you to everyone who supported us during this chapter of our lives,” announced the Rzeppa family by Facebook post on March 17. RJ’s replaced Mr. Greek’s Coney Island a year ago. A sign in the window says a bistro is forthcoming.

Hommus Express, which opened in 2012, also closed in mid-March. Owner Said Namari had bought the former La Pita Fresh with ideas about how to tweak its Middle Eastern menu, but he didn’t have any more luck than La Pita Fresh, also a short-lived experiment. Since his Ann Arbor opening, Namari has opened another Hommus Express in Southfield, which, said his manager there, is alive and well.
