Things took a little longer than expected, but as the Community Observer went to press, the nonprofit civic organization Saline Main Street was on track to move into the former Perry’s Tuxedos Plus.

“We have to bring the space up to code,” says director Holli Andrews by phone. But she’s excited to be partnering “with the historical society and Salt Valley Arts, plus we’ll even have a desk for the Saline Post’s Tran Longmoore,” she says. “We’ll have music, pop-up galleries, classes, history talks, and casual gatherings, so there’ll be lots of vitality!”

Adding to the vitality, the community goods store McPherson Local has started a monthly speaker series. June’s speaker will be Jen McPherson’s aunt, Janice Leach, who owns Why Not Pie? and is “also a master gardener,” McPherson says. “She can teach you how to start your own organic garden even if you think you’re the kind of gardener that kills everything,” she laughs. Customers are encouraged to purchase tickets in advance at the store or by phone at (734) 237-7509.
