The nation’s largest retailer of its type, Dick’s Sporting Goods is leveling up its Ann Arbor presence beginning with a grand opening weekend June 26–28 at Briarwood Mall.

The new 60,000-square-foot facility essentially succeeds Sears as the mall’s fourth anchor, with both an exterior entrance and an overhead door connected to the mall’s east wing. Their smaller Lohr Rd. store closed mid-June after nearly fifteen years in Waters Place.

Part of the broader Briarwood redevelopment including Harvest Market and the Harlan apartment complex, Dick’s initially envisioned a two-story House of Sport there but settled on its Field House store concept instead. It still includes such experiential elements as HitTrax batting cages, Trackman golf simulators, and an immersive “House of Cleats” with a 360-degree view of more than 400 footwear options and the turf on which to test them.

Founded in 1948 by eighteen-year-old Richard Stack as a bait-and-tackle shop in Binghamton, New York, Dick’s is now a $20 billion public company after a quadrupling of its stock price this decade. No response from corporate media relations was received as of press time.
