Mark Henry Schlanderer, age 85, passed away at his home in Ann Arbor, Michigan on Thursday, May 19, 2022. Mark was born and raised in Ann Arbor, graduated from Ann Arbor High School in 1954. A true Michigan fan, at age 4, he tried to get game-day cars to park in the family’s yard on Henry St. Mark attended The University of Michigan where he earned his Bachelor’s degree in Business in 1958 and his MBA in 1959. He worked for Ford Motor Company from 1959 until his retirement in 1996. Mark loved Michigan athletics and held season football tickets since 1969, and season hockey tickets since 1997. His loyal support for the Toronto Maple Leafs was his best-kept secret. Always an avid golfer, Mark won the Ann Arbor Junior Golf Tournament at the age of 18. As an upland and waterfowl enthusiast, he spent many wonderful days at Green Point Farms near Standish, Michigan. Mark loved to travel with his wife Karen, from boat rides on Lake Lucerne to the canals of Venice, Italy, and from the waterways of Scotland to Germany and its beer. Always willing to laugh, Mark had a great sense of humor. Everyone he met felt his gentle manner. He was loving, kind, loyal and supportive to family and friends—just the person you could ask for an objective opinion without fear of judgement. Everyone who knew Mark is a better person because of him. Mark is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Frances, and by his son, Gregory Patrick. He will be greatly missed and remembered by those who survive him: wife, Karen; sister Mary (Richard) Sands; sons David Michael (Jessica); Mark Henry (Beth); Michael William Dergis (Kathleen); Eric Robert Dergis (Jennifer); as well as 11 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter. Memorial contributions may be made to the University of Michigan Ice Hockey Scholarship Program or Grace Hospice of Ann Arbor.
