1. What is it that you love about Ann Arbor?
That it is Ann Arbor. Trees, bees, industry, storied history, unequaled in education, healthcare, technology; Ann Arbor is known globally. With so much in our great city, if you are bored here, it’s because you want to be bored.
2. What are the three most pressisng problems that you care most about fixing?
Mobility vs safety vs convenience vs sustainability. Cars vs bikes vs pedestrians vs public transportation. A long look at the regulation and management of the way these systems mesh needs to be made.
Maintaining fiscal responsibility. Ann Arbor does well and has worked hard for generations to acheive this, and it must be maintained
The needs of our community. Being elected the voice of Ward 3 comes with the responsibility to listen to the voters and constituents and combine their concerns and ideas into one voice for delivery.
3. How would you go about fixing those problems?
By listening. Listening to the affected parties. Listening to the experts. But most importantly listening to the community. I won’t be elected by toting an ideology or putting a party or platform above the voices of the community.
4. Let’s say that your solution meets resistance or some part of your plan doesn’t work. What do you do next?
You asked the question wrong. It isn’t my solution or my plan. It is our plan. I listen to the community and we form a plan together. My job is to broadcast the voices of Ward 3, implement the plan the community sent me with, and be accountable for my work. But to answer simply, try again.
5. The way we do politics on this country has been changing rapidly via Barack Obama, Donald Trump, Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Marjorie Taylor-Greene, Abagail Spanberger, Mikie Sherrill, and Zohran Mamdani. What are your thoughts on this decade + evolution in how we do politics in this country, and how has it changed the way you approach running for office and delivering for the people?
It showed me to put skin in the game. You can’t complain about the outcome if you weren’t involved in the process. It shows me our democratic process is healthy seeing such a vast array of talent and ideas making it into leadership. It showed me in some situations we need qualified adults in the room not just grown ups. It showed me that being accountable to your constituents, not just pandering to partisan ideas is the true goal.
6. You are one of three candidates running this seat. How do you think that the voters of Ward 3 should think about the difference between you and your opponents?
Easy. I am an independent outsider. I am not allegiant to a party, group, platform, ideology. I am here to listen to the voices of my community, work with them to find a way to make their wants and needs fit into the greater working of our city, state, nation, and world as a whole.
7. The nation is at an extremely low ebb in democratic participation, trust in institutions, and feeling truly connected to a community. I want to give you the chance to make your case to AA Observer readers that you really care about them, and that you are the right person, with the right talents and strategy, to make meaningful changes that will improve their economic lot in life, safeguard the rule of law, make sure they won’t be left behind, and that you van ensure their inclusion and dignity in Treetown.
Ward 3, hear my call! I am you. My trust, connections, outlook are shaken just as yours are. It is our time to unite as a community and be the change we want to see. I am putting myself out there, trying to be the one to do the work because I care. Call or text me at (734) 686-8028, email at [email protected], write me at P.O. Box 7116 Ann Arbor, MI 48107, find me on social media and let’s talk about the future you want to see!
8. Zingerman’s, Ahmos, No Thai, Fleetwood, or Le Dog. Where would you rather go to lunch?
What, no Roo’s Roast, Izzys, Tmas? Le Dog is my instinctive choice, but we could do some field research at the others any time. For science, ya know.
Bonus question, is that you?
Yes Drew, it is me. As always, there is more than meets the eye to any story. I am accountable for all my choices and actions. I have nothing to hide.
