“So sad!” says Amy Saalberg about March’s I Spy photo, which Marilyn Knepp identifies as “the site of the recent fire that demolished Madras Masala (empty buffet now, for sure) and the Vape Store.”

On January 20th, the two businesses on Maynard St. were completely devastated by a fire that started in the restaurant’s kitchen ventilation system. “It was disheartening to learn of the fire,” writes David Karl. “I have many fond memories of dining there.” A.J. Kydd shares the sentiment. “Sad to see the charred remains of Madras Masala in that photo,” she writes. “Encouraging to read that the owner hopes to rebuild.”

Depicted is “the mural within the ‘courtyard’ … adjoining Madras Masala,” writes Eric Sobocinski. “Tower Plaza skyscraper is in the background,” notes Bob Maddox. “I didn’t realize there was a cool mural there.”

It was “exposed by the demolition of the burned-down building,” writes Sam Firke. “Sorry to report, it was easier to spot through the rubble,” says Mary Adams. “Madras was a lovely place.”
