Home brewers Brian and Deb Schroeder are hoping to open their “nanobrewery,” Erratic Ale Co., this fall. The couple was originally planning on a late summer opening but, says Brian, “we just had some zoning issues that came up that we needed to work out with the city.” In the meantime, they are busy planning their ale-focused menu and coming up with designs for the 2,500-square-foot building at Grand and Broad St.

So, what’s a nanobrewery? According to Brian, “There’s no hard-and-fast definition, but most people generally think of a nanobrewery as a very small production, usually on the order of [brewing] three barrels at a time or less … We’re planning on being small; we’re planning on staying small. We want to focus on serving Dexter.”
