Elizabeth von Groeller, age seventy-two, passed away from endometrial and colon cancer on March 9, 2026. Liz was born in Detroit, Michigan, of Austrian and Canadian parents. From an early age, however, her European and Canadian relatives visited her or welcomed her in their home countries.

Ms. von Groeller earned BA and MA degrees in German language and literature at Wayne State University. Her time as a student included studies in Munich and Vienna. She subsequently earned an MBA at the University of Michigan, a springboard for her international human resources career.

Her professional endeavors took her to Japan, Thailand, Ethiopia, Greece, France, Sweden, England, Austria, Croatia, and Germany. She reveled in experiencing new foods, cultures, and languages. She had a biting sense of humor, and always tried to find a bit of joy in every experience, even while suffering while the cancer spread through her body.

Elizabeth von Groeller was the daughter of Alexander Maria Groeller and Frances Maria (Johnson) Groeller. She had one brother, Alexander Groeller, who predeceased her. She is survived by her niece, Emily (Groeller) Bailey; her husband, Michael Bailey; their children Olivia, Eli, and Aubrey of Westfield, Indiana; and her niece, Alexandra Groeller of Greenfield, Indiana. Her ashes have been interred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, Michigan.
