Lauren Roumayah has opened her second Detroit Cookie Company location at 609 E. William, previously Hunter House Hamburgers.

Though she got her degree from Wayne State in fashion merchandising, the lifelong baker says she preferred making treats for her classmates, and decided that she wanted to become a “cookie lady.”

Roumayah opened her first store in Ferndale in 2015, while working as a mortgage underwriter. She’s since been able to embrace the cookie business full-time.

Her generously sized cookies have drawn rave reviews from some of my Ann Arbor neighbors, who kept an eye on Roumayah’s Facebook posts until her local shop opened, then pounced on her selection.

The cookies range in price from $2 to $5 each. A half dozen costs $12, while a dozen is $22. She offers between fifteen and twenty-five varieties. Basics include chocolate chip, peanut butter, and browned butter pecan, as well as Big 3, which has Better Made potato chips, Michigan dried cherries, and chocolate chips.

More adventuresome varieties include Mad Mix, with barbecued potato chips and crushed Butterfinger bars. There’s also Cap N’ Berry-O, which has Cap ‘n Crunch’s Crunch Berries cereal, Oreos, and rainbow sprinkles.

Roumayah also offers a regularly rotating selection of brownies and blondies at $7 each, plus cinnamon rolls on weekends. Gluten-free and vegan cookies can be baked on request. Cookies, coffee and T-shirts can be shipped via her website.
