When Ann Arbor City Club dropped “Women’s” from its name in January 2008, management hosted a focus group to learn “what the guys want,” says member Jeff DeBoer. Now they’re getting their top priority: a car show—the first ever at the gracious Washtenaw Avenue landmark. DeBoer says they’ll have space for fifty vintage and classic machines and says the selection committee won’t be “too picky-choosey.” (The first three cars promised were a 1969 red Triumph, a 2000 black Viper, and a 1929 green air-cooled Franklin.)

General manager Mark Easton says the May 23 show (see Events, p. 43) is part of a campaign to attract more men to the formerly female fortress. Fifteen months after the name change, the club counts fifty men as members—and 409 women. ■
