“It’s a healthy store that you can grab and go,” says Jawdat Hashem of Choose Fit Nutrition in The Oaks Plaza. Up for grabs is a rotating variety of refrigerated meals from a Dearborn kitchen, which cooks up some 10,000 chicken, beef, seafood, vegetarian, and breakfast entrées weekly. The three-year-old company, which Hashem owns along with his sister, has another stand-alone outlet there, but much of its sales are through its presence in every Powerhouse Gym in Michigan. That connection led them to Saline, as Powerhouse’s owners also own The Oaks.
Entrées range from $6 to $12 apiece, with discounts for bulk purchases of five, ten, or twenty meals at a time. A refrigerated case also features salads and eggplant, hummus, and cilantro-
garlic dips. Fresh-fruit smoothies are prepared on site.
Hashem hopes to expand his hours for the summer. “If you don’t take the risk and believe in what you have, you will never know what’s hidden behind closed doors,” he says. “You gotta open those doors to find out, and things have been amazing.”
