Biggby Coffee Ice Cube visitors now have a cozier perch to sit and still catch the hockey games and figure skaters below.
CD Top Shelf is the three-rink venue’s first amenity to offer alcohol. The glass-walled sports bar, a remodeled general purpose room, seats about a hundred patrons with a view of the stadium arena.
“If you want to stay warm and have cold beer and watch your kids skate, that’s the right place to do it,” says Matt Kavanaugh. He and his wife Teresa own similar establishments in skating facilities in Brighton and Chelsea, with a Kalamazoo opening on the horizon.

“This was my way to be around my kids as much as I possibly could,” he says. The couple’s three sons, ages thirteen, ten, and six, all play hockey.
Their company also includes six Chop Detroit concessions, offering chopped deli sandwiches, salads, soups, and smoothies as healthier alternatives to conventional skating rink fare. Kavanaugh hopes staffing issues at their Ice Cube location, which opened in February 2025, will soon be behind them, as third-party delivery orders have been surprisingly strong.
CD Top Shelf is a “more American pub–style menu,” he says, including pizza, chicken wings and tenders, Michigan craft beers, cocktails, wine, and wine slushies.
“So it’s kind of a really nice destination if you have family with kids or even if you just want to come in and watch a game,” Kavanaugh says. “We’ve got some big TVs all over the place and lots of seating, so we’re well stocked and ready to go.”
