Hidden off Huron River Dr. behind trees and a pumping station, Barton Dam is easy to overlook. But it’s been there since 1912, quietly generating clean electricity, creating Barton Pond, helping supply the city’s drinking water, and giving rise to the surrounding ninety-eight-acre Barton Nature Area. It’s remarkable that some of Ann Arbor’s best scenery doubles as hardworking infrastructure.
