Rotisserie King garnered strong reviews over its first year for its slow-roasted chicken and other Middle Eastern preparations. But owner Sohib Ebrahim tells the Observer it was “just making me enough to pay the bills, so I was like, I need to transition it and do something different.”

He’s now using the space in a parking-constrained plaza on W. Liberty for a takeout and delivery concept, Late Plate, hoping its appeal to U-M students and other night owls will eventually support staying open until 4 a.m.

The rotisserie is gone, but new offerings include smashburgers, chutney and avocado bowls, chicken and falafel sandwiches, and milkshakes. “As basic as it is, it actually tastes really good,” he promises.

For the earlier hours, he’s offering the commercial kitchen as a commissary for food entrepreneurs to rent by the hour to launch and grow their businesses.
