A new consignment shop, Misty Handmade Boutique & Crystals, opened in January in the Zeeb Rd. plaza shared with Metzger’s and Grand Traverse Pie Company.

Wares from more than fifty-five local and regional makers are like those you might see at a craft fair, but the 2,000-square-foot space is anchored by custom-built display furniture rather than broken up into booths.

“It’s artfully arranged so that everything flows together,” explains Rachel, the owner, who asked not to be named further. “A lot of people’s items are shared in multiple spots, so they get maximum exposure.”

The twenty-eight-year-old candlemaker and crystal seller says she started the store to help “local families [make] more money for themselves.” Popular items so far are shadow boxes, plush Minky-style blankets, and knit bees. “It’s a lot of stuff you will never find at big conglomerate stores, because you just don’t get this kind of magic,” she beams.
