“Discovery Demos”: U-M Museum of Natural History

Hands-on 20-minute family-oriented demos for ages 5 & up. “All About Owls” (11:30 a.m. & 2:30 p.m.) uses museum specimens to learn about owls’ unique adaptations and how they’re related to dinosaurs. “How to Become a Fossil” (1:30 p.m.) explores how fossils form and what they can tell us. “Journey to the Sugarbush”: Hudson Mills Metropark

Every Sat. & Sun., Feb. 22–Mar. 9. Maple tree tapping and a chance to see sap being made into syrup. The 40-minute-long program takes place primarily outdoors, is appropriate for all ages, and includes a short off-trail walk. Also, a chance to order a pancake breakfast (preorder separately only when you preregister) and purchase local maple products. Sea Monsters (noon) follows a curious dolichorhynchops (an extinct species of marine reptile) as she travels through the most dangerous oceans in history. The Sky Tonight (1 & 3 p.m.) is an exploration of the current night sky, with tips on how to find the cardinal directions, constellations, and planets on your own. We Are Stars (2 p.m.) explores the secrets of our cosmic chemistry and our explosive origins, connecting life on Earth to the evolution of the universe. While in Blissfield, she makes a strange, deep connection with the mortuary receptionist. “The Government Inspector”: U-M Musical Theatre Department

Malcolm Tulip directs musical theater students in Jeffrey Hatcher’s 2009 adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s 1836 dramatic masterpiece, a satiric play about small-town corruption whose shrewd depiction of human folly still possesses a contemporary bite. The plot follows the story of a penniless impostor who manages to hoodwink an entire town. The play’s biting realism proved too much for Gogol’s contemporaries, whose vicious attacks caused him to flee Russia for more than a decade. Third Coast Percussion: University Musical Society

This Grammy Award-winning Chicago-based quartet—percussionists Sean Connors, Robert Dillon, Peter Martin, and David Skidmore—features a repertoire celebrating the depth and breadth of the musical possibility in percussion instruments. The program includes Jlin’s Please Be Still, Tigran Hamasyan’s Sonata for Percussion, and Jessie Montgomery’s Lady Justice. Also on the program is Murmurs in Time, a piece the group commissioned from Zakir Hussain, a tabla virtuoso slated to play tonight, before he tragically died in December. All ingredients, instructions, and recipes will be provided. Each attendee will make 4 pupusas, and will have the opportunity to cook one or two to eat together as a group along with a drinkl The rest can be taken home. **All ingredients used in this class will be vegetarian and gluten free**
