Hundreds of Michigan-made fragrances are featured at House of Alpha in Briarwood Mall’s JCPenney wing.

The perfumes, colognes, creams, serums, moisturizers, and body cleansers are prepared and bottled in the Southfield headquarters of Alpha Parfum, a decade-old brand founded by designer Marquise Cook.

Partner Dathan Coleman says they eschew water or alcohol bases for their concentrated luxury lines in favor of jojoba and argan oils. “Not only does it stick longer and you have a long-lasting smell, but it actually moisturizes the skin and blends in with your own aroma,” he says.

The Mississippi native says their products appeal to all ages and genders and include ankle jewelry, either for sale or complimentary with a bottle purchase.

Why the name Alpha? “We’re very dominant when it comes to anything, whether it’s sales, the way we dress, just our whole ambiance,” Coleman says, gesturing toward the stocked shelves of scents. “When [customers] put that on, we want them to feel like they’re the top.”
