The timing wasn’t perfect for a bucket brigade of Footprints shoes down the alley behind S. Main. Nevertheless, the longtime downtown retailer expects to reopen in June just steps away at 114 E. Washington.

It’s a newly renovated vintage space once part of Arbor Brewing Company. In late April it left 217 S. Main, its home since 1997, as physician/investor Reza Rahmani launched a major renovation of the building and the long-vacant former Urban Jewelers next door.

Footprints’ various lines of casual, high-quality shoes have been available online during the transition. (Hey Dude is the hot brand these days, according to owner Debra Smith.) Longtime key staffers Amanda Baker and Kelly Thayer remain to provide the personal service that’s been a hallmark of the forty-five-year-old business, even following the 2019 passing of its founder, John Causland.

Footprints, 114 E. Washington St. (734) 741–9401. Reopening hours to be announced. footprintsannarbor.com
