After a not-quite-yearlong run, Coffee Works A2 left the corner of Packard and Woodlawn in February. In a farewell Facebook post, owner Matthew Bjurman wrote “We’ve enjoyed interacting with you in our quaint coffee shop. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried … We have no regrets!”

Reached by phone at his Milan coffee roastery, Bjurman told us that the Ann Arbor location didn’t get enough walk-in traffic to sustain itself. Instead, he’s “opting for product development and expanding the wholesale.”

He doesn’t blame the arrival of the second Argus Farm Stop on the block for the closing. In fact, he says, Argus has agreed to carry some of Coffee Works’ specialty drinks, including the “Mexican mochas and bourbon-barrel-aged lattes.” But he’s already wistful about leaving Ann Arbor: “It felt like a small town on that corner, and that was so beautiful.”
