On the O&W Grove Stage: Rochelle Clark and the Familiars (5 p.m.), a country- and folk-based Americana ensemble led by Clark, a golden-voiced Chelsea singer-songwriter whose well-crafted story songs are known for their emotional directness and vulnerability.
On the Rackham Stage: Live gospel music and blues by Nikki D & The Sisters of Thunder (6:45 p.m.), a 7-piece multi-generational family band from Toledo with a sound the Toledo Blade describes as “crisp, harmonious perfection, a mixture of church-ready gospel music and down-home, gritty blues,” and a smooth jazz ensemble led by Ypsi jazz guitar virtuoso John E. Lawrence (8:15 p.m.).
The music is followed at 9:45 p.m. by a screening of Elf, Jon Favreau’s goofy 2003 comedy starring Will Ferrell as a man raised as an elf at the North Pole who goes to NYC to reunite with his biological father.

“Love’s Labor’s Lost”: U-M Residential College/Nichols Arboretum

Every Thurs.–Sun., June 4–28. U-M students and local actors perform an alfresco production of one of Shakespeare’s lesser-known comedies, a sophisticated, at times delightfully impish, and finally somewhat dark treatment of the battle of the sexes. The king of Navarre and 3 of his lords vow to deny themselves worldly pleasures, including women, and devote themselves to academic study. But when the princess of France and her 3 ladies arrive at the king’s court, these solemn oaths become vague memories, and each of the young lords begins secretly to woo one of the young ladies, indulging in revels, masques, and outrageous sonnets. The RC’s annual Shakespeare in the Arb production is a hugely popular local summer tradition. The action moves from spot to spot within the Arb, and the production takes special care to make the shifting environments an active force in the performance. Audience members should be prepared for the weather conditions and periods of sitting, standing, & walking and bring a lightweight chair or blanket to sit on. The show features two games happening simultaneously: a traditional bingo game played between comedians’ sets, and a signature Comedy Bingo game where audience members receive cards filled with stand-up comedy stereotypes. As comics incorporate those moments into their performances, you mark your card for a chance to win prizes from local businesses.
