Pianist Tom McDermott: Kerrytown Concert House
Observer Editor
One of New Orleans’ most distinctive pianists, McDermott explores a wide range of “New World” styles, from the music of Louis Moreau Gottschalk to classic ragtime, boogie-woogie, and touches of Creole, Cuban tango, and Brazilian choro. A cofounder of the Grammy award–winning brass band the New Orleans Nightcrawlers, McDermott’s simple style can be deceptive. “The relaxed feel of Mr. McDermott’s playing sometimes conceals the boldness of his harmonic decisions and the rigor of his approach, which leans on diligent musicology,” according to a Wall Street Journal review. 7:30 p.m., 415 N. Fourth Ave. $30–$40 (students, $20–$30) in advance online & (if available) at the door. (734) 769–2999, kerrytownconcerthouse.com.
