At the end of December a reader sent a news tip thatAnnabelle,a jewelry and accessories store on S. Main Street, next door to the M Den, was advertising deep discounts and appeared likely to close. One week later, a “For Lease” sign was in the front window, and necklace displays and most of the shelves were bare. The phone number to the store was no longer in service. The reader, a “townie and customer” who didn’t want to be named, wrote in an email: “It is unfortunate that retail has difficulty on Main Street, it seems restaurants, especially higher end ones, are the only ones that can make a good go at it.”
