Ann Arbor, MI

Ann Leidy, 95, died peacefully March 20, 2023. Ann grew up in the small community of Mount Washington in Berkshire County, MA. She attended a one-room school house for her first 4 years, then Roeliff Jansen School (Roe-Jan) from 5th–12th grade. Always one to explore a new challenge, she became the glockenspiel player in the marching band. After high school, Ann moved to New York City to study fine arts at Pratt Institute. She then took a position with the Finland Ceramics and Glass Corporation, which later merged with the Georg Jensen Company. Ann was employed there until her marriage to John Leidy in 1959, joining him in Ann Arbor. Her education and work in NYC made her well-suited for the John Leidy Gift Shop business! Ann was known for her graciousness, loving generosity, and kindness to others. Ann loved her family and many friends. She was also an animal lover, of both the wild and domesticated varieties. She used to say that her goal had been to live to the year 2000, to ring in the new millennium. We’re so grateful, Mom, that you graced us for a couple more decades, and then some! Ann was preceded in death by her husband John (1993). She is survived by their children John Leidy (Lupe), Ellen Wilhite (Jim), Mary Murray (Rob), Peter Leidy (Betsy) and Liz Arsenault (Boyd) as well as 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. There are so many caregivers to thank, too numerous to mention individually, who along with family lovingly supported our Mom during the past few years. You know who you are! Services have been held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Ann Arbor. Those who wish to make a donation may want to consider one of Ann’s favorite organizations, Equine Advocates in Chatham NY (equineadvocates.org), or St. Thomas Church (sta2.org).
