William (Bill) R. Solomon passed away peacefully the morning of November 6, 2022. Bill had been living in University Living Senior Living Facility in Ann Arbor, MI, since November 2021. Bill is survived by his three children, Marjorie (William Kobertz), Jonathan (Lorraine Hough), and Peter (Robin Solomon) as well as four grandchildren, Sydney, Zachary, Qwynn, and Naia. Bill was born in New York City, the only child of Sidney and Jeanette Solomon. He attended the Bronx School of Science for high school and went on to Columbia University for college. After college he received his medical degree from New York University School of Medicine in 1955. From New York he completed his internship at the University Hospitals of Cleveland in 1956 followed by a residency at the University of Michigan where he was reunited with his childhood friend, Lois Malzman, and they married in 1957. During his medical education, he served in the Air Force in Fairbanks, Alaska. After completion of his military service, he combined his love of botany and science by specializing in internal medicine, specifically allergy and immunology, at the University of Michigan until he retired in 2012. During his tenure at the University, he published over forty articles on allergens and served as the Allergy and Clinical Immunology Division Chief for ten years.
Bill was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He was a member of Temple Beth Emeth and a great supporter of numerous Jewish organizations and charities. Bill was also an avid fan of University of Michigan sports teams. He loved traveling to all corners of the world with Lois where he pursued his interests in ancient civilizations and bird watching. He adored learning new languages and had a special fondness for the English language. He continued to correct his middle-aged children on the proper use of the English language even in his twilight years. He will be buried in New York City next to his wife Lois who passed in 2015. The family is grateful to the staff at University Living and to the care given by Arbor Hospice.
