I spy “the ‘Tree of Life’ statue on the corner of State St. and North University,” writes Catrin Koselka. It “was installed for the bicentennial,” says Jason Kahn. “Now, A2 is one year older, hence your clue … 201.” “Celebrating another birthday,” adds Barb Tester.
“‘Tree of Life’ [is] by Ohio artist Richard Alan Morgan,” writes Laura McEwen. “In July 2024, [it] was purchased by the Ann Arbor Art Fair and dedicated to the city of Ann Arbor in recognition of its 200th birthday,” continues Tester. According to an Ann Arbor Art Fair press release, “the piece represents the cycle of life from birth through death, stands 11.16 feet tall, and is made of several different repurposed metal pieces.” On his website, Morgan highlights his use of reclaimed materials, writing that “the best thing is being able to create something out of nothing, and making people happy with my art.” David Karl calls Tree of Life “a fitting and wonderful representation for our city. Especially as Ann Arbor is known as Tree Town.”
Thirteen entrants correctly identified the Tree of Life statue. Catrin Koselka, a U-M student who snapped a pic of this sculpture while passing by, is our random drawing winner. She will enjoy her $25 gift certificate at Zingerman’s. To enter this month’s contest, use the image and clue below and send your answer to the address above.
