“This is where I wanted to be,” says Culture Creations owner Laura Scriven from her new location between Bumble’s Dry Goods and the Common Grill. The space became available in February when Scriven’s friend MaryAnne Thomas closed her resale shop there, The Find. “I was thrilled that I could serve the community,” says Thomas, “but I wanted to focus on my family.”
The move gives Scriven lots more room to display her array of gift items from around the world, including felt finger puppet animals from Vietnam, Turkish desk lamps in colorful mosaic designs, wooden games from Thailand, handbags from India, soapstone hearts from Kenya, and whimsical animal figurines from Scotland.
Scriven lived for decades in South Korea as a teacher, and as the Community Guide went to press, was waiting on a huge shipment of traditional Korean-style pottery. It’s “literally on the slow boat from South Korea,” she laughs.
