Root, the underground cocktail bar at 201 S. First St., closed rather suddenly at the end of January, though ownership intends to reopen in some form.
Its Facebook post of January 28 reads in part, “This will be the final night of service with Root as a cocktail bar and with our current staff.” Its Instagram page indicates, “Root will be back early spring.”
It opened in late 2021 beneath the affiliated Circ Bar in a recently renovated nineteenth-century structure once a brewery. Circ general manager Josh Glaspie tells the Observer that remodeling is ongoing downstairs, but no reopening date is set. He asked that questions about the changes and reason for closure be sent by email, for which no responses were received.
The phone number for Krazieye Productions, owner of both establishments, leads to Root’s voicemail, and the Observer’s messages were not returned at press time.
