After fourteen years on W. Stadium, Wolverine State Brewing Co. has temporarily closed its taproom. CEO Matt Roy says he expects it to reopen this fall under new ownership.
Roy, the sole local presence among three current partners, says the as-yet-unidentified buyers are well equipped to take on the lager-focused brewery. Wolverine State also launched a distilled spirits line about a year ago, adding an on-site speakeasy, Suite 103, in recent months.
Beer production and distribution continues uninterrupted. Roy says the new owners are renovating and plan to reopen in time for football season.
Heading for semiretirement, Roy says he’s pleased to have found “local businesspeople who are already in this industry” to take over. “They know our products, they know our customers, and they are as excited to come in here and hit the ground running and launch it to the next level as I am excited and comfortable turning it over to them.”
