Jordanian-born Emad Alkhteeb has purchased Golam Meat Market and added groceries from around the world to his newly named Mira International Market.
Alkhteeb and his American-born wife, Genny Hamami, are the hands-on operators, and they’ve named their new venture after their daughter. He’d co-owned Mediterranean Market at Stone School and Ellsworth for two years before selling it last year. “We had a very good offer,” he smiles.

Fresh meats, delivered every other day from Detroit, and fish are the mainstay of the business, he tells the Observer once he’s finished butchering some goat shoulders for a customer. But they added spices, dry beans, juices, and other groceries not readily found at Meijer or Walmart to Golam’s offerings to help meet the needs of the diverse clientele in the city’s southeast side.
A website is under development; once it’s up, customers will be able to place orders for delivery.
