We received more than 200 entries correctly identifying the Fake Ad for “Meat Cute” on page 68 of the August issue.

“It helped that I learned the meaning of ‘meet cute’ a while back listening to an episode of This American Life,” writes Ernest Pollitz, “but the play area (with characters including the name of the past month’s winner) and the vision of bulk bins of lard and tallow were pretty good signals. You could have gone a step further revealing a farm-to-table café where perusing the pasture replaces ordering off the menu (like fresh lobster at a seafood restaurant).”

“One giveaway was the Sowfront address, knowing as I do that the local porcine (side?) road is similar but called Hogback,” writes Robert LaJeunesse. “The name of Burch is split between the character names ‘‘WilBUR, CHarlotte.’”

“All those literary animals—I hope they are not in the butcher’s refrigerated case,” writes Ken Varnum. “Is MAHA (Michigan Association for Harvesting Animals) a response to the restructuring of the federal food regulations? If so, doubly clever!”

And Matt Syal wrapped up the whole month in a brown paper package tied up with string: “I liked how you butchered Deborah Burch’s name!!”

Kobe Howcroft was chosen as our winner, and will be enjoying a gift certificate at Zingerman’s. To enter this month’s contest, find the Fake Ad and let us know at the address below. Hint: The ad always contains the last name of the previous month’s winner in some form.
