“The Avett Brothers & Mike Patton Present: AVTT/PTTN”: Ann Arbor Summer Festival

A new collaborative project by 2 of the leading acts in contemporary American music. The Avett Brothers are a heralded postpunk Southern roots string duo from North Carolina whose music has been described as a cross between the Everly Brothers and the Violent Femmes that expertly balances the tensions between the rootsy bluegrass of the rustic Old South and the rowdy punk rock of the cosmopolitan New South. Patton, the lead singer of the popular 90s alt-rock band Faith No More, is a versatile and idiosyncratic vocalist known for his technical ability and eclectic taste. “Patton disappears into the Avetts’s world while they disappear into his,” writes Americana Highways in a review of the trio’s 2025 self-titled album. “What emerges isn’t a compromise but a genuine third thing, born from mutual dissolution. It’s a dark, uncomfortable work. It’s also some of the most honest music either artist has made.” 8 p.m., Hill Auditorium. Tickets $62–$92 in advance at the a2sf.org & (if available) at the door.  (734) 994–5999.
