event is two days: March 18, 9:00 AM - March 19, 2025, 5:00 PM

MIDAS organizes this event annually to enable the use of artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve research breakthroughs that were previously unfathomable. In this symposium, we bring together world-class researchers to share their vision and work, share “AI Journeys” stories – how University of Michigan researchers have been incorporating AI in their research and the lessons they impart to the audience, and offer sessions for research brainstorming and skill building. The symposium will feature four themes:

-Expanding the limit of the Human Scientist
-Trusting AI accelerated research
-Global Collaboration
-The nature of scientific creativity

The intended audience are researchers and trainees regardless of the specific fields of their research and the focus of their intellectual pursuit, as well as the general public who are curious about AI and its impact on science and humanity.

The local Berofsky family reprises a concert they played a few weeks ago in Washington, D.C. The family includes 2 U-M music professors—violist Kathryn Votapek and violinist Aaron Berofsky (the Ann Arbor Symphony concertmaster)—and their sons, pianist Charles and cellist Sebastian. The program includes Mozart’s lyrical Piano Quartet No. 2 in E-flat Major, early 20th-century Spanish composer Joaquín Turina’s charming Piano Quartet in A Minor, and Brahms’ brooding and melancholic Piano Quartet No. 3 in C Minor, also known as the Werther Quartet because it matches the mood of Goethe’s novel, The Sorrows of Young Werther. 7:30 p.m., Britton Recital Hall, 1100 Baits. Free.
