“Much Ado About Nothing”: U-M Rude Mechanicals
Nov. 7–9. Jeffrey Wagner directs this U-M student troupe in Shakespeare’s high-spirited, sharp-tongued comedy about 2 pairs of young lovers. The play is best known for its charged sexual banter and for the penetrating wit and often dark cast of its humor. The production sets the action in the present day, changes the village patriarch into a woman, and subtly tweaks the dialogue to place greater emphasis on the women in the story while adhering to the original meter. With live music by the U-M student lo-fi rock band Cedar Bend and jazz-folk vocalist Maddy Ringo. 8 p.m. (Fri. & Sat.) & 2 p.m. (Sun.), Lydia Mendelssohn Theatre, 911 North University. Tickets $12 (students & seniors, $8) in advance at muto.umich.edu & at the door. (734) 763–1107, [email protected].
