“Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”: Dexter Community Players

July 24–27. Gosia Hoot & Laurie Hildreth direct local actors in Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s popular 1973 rock musical based on the biblical story of Joseph. The favorite son of the prophet Jacob, Joseph was sold into slavery by his envious brothers but rose to become one of the Pharaoh’s key insiders. Though it never achieved the success of the team’s earlier Jesus Christ Superstar, it’s an appealing and good-natured musical with lots of catchy melodies and innocently irreverent lyrics. 7 p.m. (Thurs.–Sat.) & 2 p.m. (Sat. & Sun.), Dexter Center for the Performing Arts, 2200 Parker Rd., Dexter. Tickets $20 (students & seniors, $15) in advance at dextercommunityplayers.com and at the door.
