“Diversions”: U-M Symphony Band

Jason Fettig and guest conductors lead this music student ensemble in a program highlighted by contemporary American composer D.J. Sparr’s new concerto for electric guitar and wind ensemble, Zephyr Roaring Thunder, a rollicking, genre-bending, Frank Zappa-esque work that features Sparr playing electric guitar. Also, Ernst Krenek’s quirky Drei Lustige march, Castéerèede’s peaceful Divertisseiment d’éetée, William Grant Still’s Summerland, and Percy Grainger’s In a Nutshell suite. Preceded at 7:15 p.m. by a brief talk. 8 p.m., Hill Auditorium. Free. (734) 764-0583.
