One thing that’s always been great about Ann Arbor is that people like Donna Wessel Walker live here. Brilliant, advanced degrees from the finest universities in the world (Michigan, Oxford), and of course, dedicated Fake Adder. Drop some knowledge on us, DW2: “The November Fake Ad is for McCarran-Ferguson Insurance on page 64,” Walker writes. “The clue is cleverly hidden in the combination of insurance company mascots ‘Gecko or Hank the Emu’ (I hadn’t heard of Hank the Emu so that was the first doubt I had about this little ad). Clever hint in the name of the insurance company, named for the 1945 act that confirmed the rights of states to regulate insurance companies. Well played.”

Walker was one of ninety-four people who correctly identified the ad. Of course, this also wouldn’t be Ann Arbor if there weren’t someone who pointed out how divisive the McCarran-Ferguson act was. “How you put Ken Koorhan into the McCarran-Ferguson ad, I don’t know,” wrote Mitch Rycus. “But, it’s got to be in there somewhere since this Fake Ad for insurance from a highly controversial act of congress cannot be for real.” Rycus also included a poem, which, again, Ann Arbor.

The playfully named Melodie Marske was chosen as our winner. We like to think that she’ll use her gift certificate to buy food for her harp-playing unicorn, but at press time, our minion was still awaiting word.
