Just as apple orchards and pumpkin recipes started to surface, it’s Christmas at Kohl’s! The department store set up their seasonal display in stores as early as the second week of September.

The holidays seems to come earlier each year as stores begin to stock glittering tree ornaments and snow globes filled with winter scenes. Meijer joined in the spirit by launching their holiday merchandise the first week of October, while Target waits to put its holiday merchandise on shelves till the end of October.

That’s still a full month before the traditional start of the Christmas season on the day after Thanksgiving. But even Black Friday is shifting backward, to the preceding evening. Kohl’s plans to open its doors at 8 p.m. Thanksgiving night, and with many other stores following suit, it’s only a matter of time before all radio and TV commercials switch to their holiday jingles.
