Bryant Stuckey closed Decadent Delight in January, but his decadent delights live on: he’s now making cakes and desserts full time for Sweetwaters Cafe. “He’s been with us for awhile,” says Lisa Bee, who owns Sweetwaters with her husband, Wei. “We’ve collaborated on many desserts and cakes for our store. But we’ve always wanted to make our own cakes and desserts.”
The Bees’ new wholesale business, which has a couple of other commercial contracts besides their own cafes, is called BakeBar, and Stuckey is executive chef. Not wanting her other pastry subcontractors to panic, Bee quickly specifies that this is for cakes and desserts only: “not pastries–we will still be working with our pastry suppliers.”
The Decadent Delight kitchen, on West Huron just west of the Ann Arbor Railroad overpass, isn’t idle. It’s currently being used by Britten Stringwell to make her raw-food B Bars (unrelated to BakeBar). Stringwell hopes eventually to add a “walk-up/grab-‘n’-go/healthy treats cafe” called the Carrot Seed.
