Fake Ad: January 2020

by Jay Forstner

From the February, 2020 issue

We received eight entries correctly identifying the Fake Ad for Leaning into Meaning in the January issue.

"I've lived in AA since September and this is the first fake ad I've managed to find!" wrote Anna Redgrave. "I think it's on page 45, the perfect 'fROTH' on your cappuccino [hiding the name of last month's winner]. Incidentally did you mean to put it 1 page away from a photo of cappuccino designs?"

Redgrave wasn't the only contestant to comment on the fortuitous placement. "It kind of jumped out at me after looking at a news item about a coffee shop where the latte machine could generate a custom image in the foam on your coffee," wrote Harm Buning of Placentia, California. "LoL." (For his role in another funny story, google "Apollo 15 Harm Buning.")

"The fake ad is Connecting the Powerful with the Powerless, Leaning into Meaning," wrote David Karl. "These would be great slogans for someone's political campaign ... Ever think of running for office? Or managing someone's campaign?"

We're so glad you asked. Ed Nimby is rumored to be assembling an exploratory committee at this very moment.

Kathy Erwin was chosen as our winner. She's taking her gift certificate to Seva.
