At downtown breakfast and lunch spot The Hen, carryout customers wait in line to order like everyone else. It’s owner Chris Fronimos’s vision of hospitality: he says he doesn’t appreciate it “when I go to a place that I take my time, I come out of my car, I go inside, and they’re building or working on other people’s meals prior to mine, and all they did was text them from their phone.”

Now he’s opened The Hen on the Fly “for the impatient.” It offers nearly all of the parent café’s menu items for takeout or delivery.

A Chicago native, Fronimos is feeling more at home since moving here to open The Stray Hen in 2021. So he recently dropped “stray” from the name, further differentiating it from the full-service establishment he co-owns back home.
